#1: PUNKY FINDS A HOME PART #1: - In this pilot episode, a fiery, effervescent
8-year-old named Penelope “Punky” Brewster slips through the window of an empty
apartment, with her loyal puppy Brandon in tow. When she is discovered by Henry
Warinmont – the crotchety old apartment manager – she is reluctantly invited
into his home, where she reveals the truth about what happened to her real
family/. She also bonds with Cherie, a girl her own age who lives with her grandmother
Betty in the same building. Henry, who has lived alone for many years, makes it
clear that he does not want company, but as sweet little Punky slowly wriggles her
way into his heart, he realizes that her future is essentially in his hands
now. Punky tells Henry that it all started when her father walked out on her
and her mother, Susan Brewster. A couple of weeks ago, Susan said they were
going on a trip, so Susan, Punky and Brandon piled up in the car and drove to a
shopping center in Chicago, where Susan abandoned Punky and Brandon, who have
been homeless ever since. In the vacant apartment, Punky always had food,
because 8-year-old Cherie Johnson, who lives upstairs from Henry with her
grandmother Betty Johnson, always brought food to Punky. Henry takes some
memorable pictures of Punky, Cherie, Betty, Brandon and himself at his
photography studio. Later, Punky decides to clean Henry’s apartment but when
Henry gets home, he is furious because he liked the way it was before Punky
cleaned the place. Henry is especially furious to see that Punky put his wife’s
picture out on the table behind the couch, because years ago,, Henry’s wife
died about a year after getting married to Henry, and it still hurts Henry too
much to look at that picture. Punky gets upset and leaves, thinking she’s a bad
person and that wherever she goes, no one wants her around. Henry spends 3 and
a half hours looking for Punky, and when he returns to the apartment, he finds
Punky in his apartment. She says she wasn’t going anywhere, because it was
raining outside, and that she has decided to give Henry another chance. Henry
lets Punky spend the night on the couch in his apartment.

that Henry’s age and marital status are not in his favor, so Punky must go to
Fenster Hall. Once there, she meets her two roommates and joins forces with
them to escape and return back to the person she wants to be with the most. Randi
later returns to Henry’s apartment and tells Henry that there hasn’t been much
progress in finding Punky’s mother Susan, who may not want to be found. Randi
also says that in 72 hours, the DCFS will have a hearing to decide who gets
custody of Punky and Punky wants it to be Henry. Henry has shed a lot of grouchiness,
and he now loves Punky and would like to have custody of her, but Randi thinks
Punky would be better off with someone else. At Fenster Hall, Punky is
introduced to her two roommates – Lisa is a girl who acts tough, and Mary is a
girl who never talks. Puinky wants to escape from Fenster Hall and go back to
